At the beginning of 2023, a year of blessings and breakthroughs, I asked God for the theme for Hugh's News.
Almost immediately He gave it to me and I wrote it down.
"Thanking God for the past" -- "Trusting God for the future."
This theme can easily be applied to Emmanuel University.
Emmanuel University was founded in 1919. That's 104 years.
Emmanuel--"God with Us."

Emmanuel--"God with Us."
As I have been praying for President Gregory K. Hearn I asked God to bless him in every aspect of his job description as the president of Emmanuel University. One of his responsibilites is to raise funds to pay off all indebtednes and offer leadership in recruitment of students to assist him in financial stability.
Now is the time for all of us who are alumnus or alumni of Emmanuel University to trust God to give beyond what we can see in giving to Emmanuel University. The Bible says, " . . . without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6, NIV).
God would have us to think Big. Let us erase small thinking and ideas from our minds and past giving. Let is take the limits off what God would have us give.
I believe God wants you to prosper. I base this statemente on the Word of God recorded in Proverbs 11:25:
25 A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
NIV
I believe there are hundreds of people who read Hugh's News who can give $1,000. You can trust God for the money you may already have to give to Emmanuel University.
There are others who can double that by giving $2,000. Some can give $5,000 and $10,000. I remember a couple who called me and asked to see me in my office at the Richmond First Pentecostal Holiness Church when I served as pastor. They brought a check for $25,000 for the new addition of classrooms, offices, choir rehearsal room, and a board room. The Holy Spirit moved on them to give and a number of other people did likewise. It was so exciting to see this happening and the joy that was expresed by these precious people who loved God as they invested in what God was doing in our church.
I am confident that there are some who can easily give a Million Dollars and more.
Ask God what you should give. He will impress upon you and your wife, or if your are a single person exactly what you should give. Then do what He says.
The Bible says that God loves as cheerful giver. The following Scripture passsage tells us that and more:
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
NIV
In closing let me remind you of what Jesus said about giving. It was the Apostle Paul who shared this saving of our Lord that is not found in any of the four Gospels. Here it is recorded in Acts 20:35, "And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'" (NKJV).
