Gailya Williams List to retire from World Missions Ministries (WMM) effective December 31, 2021.
I just received a letter from Bishop J. Talmadge Gardner, Executive Director of World Missions Ministries (WMM), informing me and many others that Gailya Williams List is retiring the end of 2021.
Let us celebrate and honor a great Christian missionary lady. She was ordained by the World Missions Ministries Board some 60 years ago. She is Rev. Gailya Williams List. She and her husband, Philip List, served together as career missionaries in Kenya for 51 years, and Gailya has continued serving an additional 9 years for a total of 60 years.
In a personal letter from Gailya she shared the joy of having ministered all these years in Kenya. She has served Jesus Christ and poured out her life to these dear people for His sake. She has been a missionary since March 1962.
She asked for our prayers as she will be returning to the USA and her home in North Carolina. She needs medical check ups and to reconnect with her family and friends. She is a member of that well known Williams family. As I recall there are three daughters in this family and a couple of sons. The ladies are: Sylvia, Gailya, and Ruthe.
I first met Gailya Williams when we were students at Emmanuel College in 1952 in Franklin Springs, GA. I saw her again at the National Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1954 when I was a member of the Quantico Marine Band, at Quantico, VA. Four years after my honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, we were students at Holmes Bible College. At that time in history, it was called Holmes Theological Seminary. That is where she met Philip List. I was privileged to meet Philip's father, Bill, and his mother, and other members of his family.
Philip was taking some courses at Furman University when I was a student there. Philip and Gailya were not able to purchase their much needed groceries due to a lack of money. They prayed fervently and asked God to meet their need. One day after a class at Furman, Philp went to his car in student parking and discovered that someone had filled his car with bags of groceries. As a matter of fact, my car was parked in the same location. Philip thought I had done it. So, I had to tell him that I did not do it.
God answered Philip and Gailya's prayers. It was a miracle. They were young people with faith in God. It is little wonder what God has done through their dedicated ministry in Kenya.
You like me may wish to honor Gailya Williams List with a Special Retirement gift. Here is how we can do it:
