Good morning, Hugh.
Dr. Vinson Synan left this world and entered heaven at 4:35 a.m. this morning, March 15, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in OKC. I was privileged to be at his side along with his wife Carol, my wife Virginia, and her two brothers, Vince Jr, and Joey.
On Saturday evening many of Vinson’s family members came by to sing and pray over him, and say their goodbyes.
I will follow with an obituary soon, but for now, I can tell you that a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, in Christ’s Chapel on the campus of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.
A second service will be held on Saturday, March 28, on or near the campus of Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. Following, he will buried in Chester, VA near the graves of his parents, Bishop J.A. Synan and Minnis Synan.
A visitation with the family is being planned for sometime this week at Hahn-Cook, Street and Draper Funeral Service in Oklahoma City.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we both mourn the temporary separation from our dad, granddaddy, and great granddaddy, and celebrate that he
Is now pain-free and in the presence of the Lord to whom he devoted his life.
J. Mark Taylor
(On behalf of Carol Synan and family)
[Editor's Comment: I have temporarily lost a great friend. Vinson Synan excelled in everything he did in life. God blessed him with a long life of some 85 years and a beautiful wife and family. He and I communicated often by phone, email, and letter. He is considered the historian of the IPHC, and during his lifetime served in many strategic positions in Christian higher education, and in the church.
I am saddened at the news of his death, however, I know where Vinson is. One day, I hope to join him and the other saints of the ages who have gone on before us. Greg and I express our condolences to the family. Our families attended Muse Memorial Church in Oklahoma City when I was the third president of Southwestern College, now renamed Southwestern Christian University and located in Bethany, Oklahoma.
It is fitting that in his death he will be honored on the campuses of Oral Roberts University and Regent University where he served these institutions with dignity and professionalism.
I want to thank Mark Taylor for sending me the news of Dr. Synan's passing. It is well-thought out and written beautifully. He represents the family well.]
