Do you have a Life Scripture Verse?
Melvine, my deceased wife, often mentioned her Life Scripture Verse, a verse that helped to guide her life for 85 years. Here is this Scripture that Melvine claimed from the Book of Proverbs:
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
NIV
Melvine read the Bible through every year. This Scripture was a standard one in her daily living. She and I learned to trust God through some difficult times and we believed God's Word would bring us through, and He did. We prayed together, read the Bible together and shared what God was speaking to our hearts through the Word of God.
On Sunday, September 6, I was not able to attend our church in Athens, Georgia. I watched a number of television preachers and they were all good. My soul was fed by the Word of God that was proclaimed through preaching.
I love to hear Charles Stanley, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. He spoke about "Anchor Points." He recalled the time when he was to preach his first sermon. He said he was afraid not ever preaching before to a congregation of God's people. His mother sensed he was afraid and gave him a piece of paper with this Scripture printed on it:
Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
NIV
He said he asked the Lord to help him memorize it. He had only a block or so to walk to the church. Although he felt fear, God gave him courage to overcome the fear and preach with assurance he was doing what God called him to do.
What is your Life's Scripture or your Anchor Point?
We all need an anchor point. God's Holy Word has one just for you to satisfy and meet your personality. You can trust the Lord to fulfill His promises to you. Ask the Lord to give you a Scripture. Believe God for it, and He will surely give it to you. He has promised to answer us when we pray or call on Him.
