I continue to be in quarantine at our home in Winder, GA.
in recent days as I watch the news on television I have come to realize that I am not the lone ranger. More and more people are been given assignments for a period of quarantine.
It is interested to me that the Governor of New York has sectioned off a city near New York City called New Rochelle. That caught my eye. I spent some 9 weeks on David's Island, about 30 minutes out in the New England Sound, where Fort Slocum used to be located. I was in the Basic Officer Chaplains Course for US Army chaplains. We had to take a large ferry boat over to the island.
One Sunday night Raymond Caulder and I arrived in the parking lot there in New Rochelle near where the ferry docked. We heard the Ship's Fog Horn. I told Raymond that if we ran we could get to the ferry before it left the shore for the island. We ran, I took Raymond's hand and we jumped. We landed perfectly and thanked God for helping us. However, we found out that the ferry was not going out, but coming in.
That is a true story, one I like to tell.
Those were wonderful weeks of schooling. I graduated and was assigned medical reserve unit in Lexington, KY while I continued my education at Asbury Theological Seminary. The extra money I earned from those reserve meetings helped us financially. God always has a way to supply our needs.
In a few days it wlll be two months since Melvine went to heaven. While I rejoice in her success, I greatly miss her. Melvine died on January 17, 2020.
