Bishop Abel Palomo, Mid-Atlantic Conference, invited the IPHC marching delegation for breakfast. Maranatha is located across the highway from the University of Maryland.
It was reported to Hugh's News that more than 200 people showed up Friday morning, January 27, for breakfast at Maranatha Fellowship Pentecostal Holiness Church in College Park, MD. Following a devotional message by Bishop Doug Beacham these people drove or rode on motorcycles to march in the annual March for Life in Washington, DC.

Vice president Mike Pence and adviser to the president KellyAnne Conway told a crowd of thousands of abortion opponents gathered at the National Mall in Washington DC that the pro-life movement has gained a powerful new voice on America’s political stage, and that the Trump White House was standing behind them.
“This is a new day, a new dawn for life,” declared KellyAnne Conway. “Life is winning again in America,” said Pence. President Donald J. Trump Trump tweeted as the march was beginning to get underway. “The March for Life is so important . . . to all of you marching — you have my full support!” In the 44 year history of the March for Life in Washington, DC in January each year this is the first time a president or vice president spoke to the marching crowds of Americans who are pro life. I think it was John Milton who said, "They also serve who stand and wait." I have done that (stand and wait) many times when we, members of the Quantico Marine Band, had to stand and wait for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to arrive on the parade grounds at Quantico Marine Base to begin the graduation exercises for the newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenants who had finished the Officer Candidate School. He would the review the troops, and the parade would begin. Finally, yes, finally, I received a lovely card from President-Elect Donald J. Trump for the four Tie Perfects I sent to the Trump Towers several weeks ago. It has his signature on it, no doubt a stamped facsimile that was photographed and made into a stamp with black ink. I have such a stamp with my unique signature which I decided on when I was about 16 or 17 years old when I was in high school. How dare such a youth make such a decision that would determine what I do at 84? What did President-Elect say? I am sure a staff member wrote it. "Thank you for taking the time to send your kind words of support and thoughtful gift. "Melania and I greatly appreciate your words of support. "With best wishes, "Donald J. Trump" I attribute this response as well as my gift of 4 Tie Perfects to Allen Clark. He sensed that Donald J.Trump needed them to hold his tie in place. Who would have thought I would get a response? Well, it did happen. I may need to purchase more to give to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Over the years I have given away hundreds of Tie-Perfects to men and boys. It is a practical gift to men who wear ties. The fundamental core of our nation’s troubled state isn’t a political, economic or social issue. It’s a spiritual problem—a hardened heart bent toward rebellion against God and His ways. A people, a nation, that honors and acknowledges God will reap the blessings of obedience. A people, a nation, that repeatedly defies and dishonors God on a corporate or personal level will ultimately reap the bitter fruits of disobedience.
So in 2017, let’s commit ourselves afresh to love and honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s ask for the power of the Holy Spirit so that we may live holy and pure in every arena of our lives, remembering that the world around us is closely watching our behavior. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). What is America's spiritual problem? (Adapted from “We Must Stay on Guard” in the January 2017 issue of Decision magazine) Prayer Dear Lord, may my heart’s desire be to live in intimate fellowship with You, overflowing with adoration, worship and obedience. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that Your light may shine through me to the world around me so that You may be glorified. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Philippians 1:3-6
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the Gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." NKJV [Editor's Commentary: What a beautiful thought to thank God for others by remembering them in prayer and making specific requests for each of them. What's more is that when God saves us He never abandons us or leaves us to fend for ourselves. The good work, the work of perfecting us or maturing us as Christians is not only for us, but we can add our children to this Scripture without any violence to the recorded Word. You will remember from your reading of the Book of Acts the story of Paul and Silas in the Philippian prison. Acts 16:30-31 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. KJV The meaning of thy house or your house tells us that this promise is to our children and grandchildren—all members of our family--our house. Upon the authority of God's Holy Word, we can claim our household, all our children for Christ and His Kingdom. FIVE Best Things to Say When Caught Sleeping at Your Desk
5. "They told me at the Blood Bank this might happen." 4. "This is just a 15-minute power nap they raved about in the time management course you sent me to." 3. "Whew! Guess I left the top off the Whiteout. You probably got here just in time." 2. "Did you ever notice sound coming out of these keyboards when you put your ear down real close?" And the NUMBER ONE best thing to say if you get caught sleeping at your desk... 1. Raise your head slowly and say, "...in God's' name, Amen." The Bible instructs us not to despise the day of small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. KJV We serve an awesome God who loves everyone and wants to bless every person on the planet earth. If God takes note of the sparrow, how much more does He care for you and me. Celebrating this milestone of the incredible 20-year history and service of Hugh's News to the IPHC Ministries and the Body of Christ worldwide is no small thing. Who would have thought that 20 years ago that Hugh's News would survive? Hugh Morgan was only 64 years old. He was the Director/Endorser of Chaplains Ministries, IPHC in his first year in that position. He had 13 active duty military chaplains scattered throughout the United States at various military installations as well as overseas. From 13 subscribers in 1997 to 20 years later with 6,000 readers in more than 22 countries is a modern day miracle. God has blessed the efforts and caused Hugh's News to grow exponentially. Those who voted for Hillary Clinton are grieving or protesting. Those who supported Donald Trump are cheering—secretly or publicly—over his surprise victory. Journalists are scratching their heads because they never imagined that Trump and the Republican Party would end up in charge of the White House and Congress. But Mr. Trump is president now. And the church faces a huge challenge. Exit polls show the election was most definitely decided along racial lines, since 88 percent of African Americans and 79 percent of Hispanics voted for Clinton. How do followers of Jesus Christ—Who is the ultimate Reconciler—minister to people from all kinds of ethnic and political backgrounds when the election divided them? During and after the election I decided to park myself in Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul's heavenly discourse on Christian unity. I urge you to read it several times over the next week. Paul's words fly in the face of our nasty political Facebook posts. He calls the church to declare a ceasefire from arguments and to embrace (are we ready for this?) gentleness, humility and reconciliation. I've said this before, and some angry Christians have criticized me for it. They seem to suggest that following Paul's Biblical guidelines doesn't apply during an election. They also think that being a peacemaker is a sign of weakness—even though Jesus promised special blessings to those who make peace (Matt. 5:9 ). Yet my concern is that if we don't dial down our harsh tone, the church is going to lose its influence as we congratulate ourselves for our voting power. It's your choice. You can dig in your heels and be a cantankerous and offensive Christian, or you can become a peacemaker. Here are some steps you can take: 1. See the world through other people's eyes. I have immigrant friends who were scared of Donald Trump because of his comments about Mexicans. I've learned to say, "Hablemos" ("Let's talk"). Speaking to my Hispanic amigos in my broken Spanish tells them I care, even though I don't say my verbs correctly. Immigrants are not our enemies. Be a friend and try to understand how they feel. 2. Repent of your outrage. The apostle Paul told the Ephesians: "Be angry but do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger" (Ephesians 4:26 ). It's one thing to be passionate about your political position; it's another to be so angry about an issue that you seethe with bitterness toward anyone who slightly disagrees with you. That is sin. And when the world sees angry, judgmental Christians, they drive past our cold churches and vow never to visit. If you allow hate to dwell in your heart, there is no room for the love of God. 3. Bite your lip in conversations. Paul said, " Let no unwholesome word proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for building up, that it may give grace to the listeners" (Ephesians 4:29 ). The apostle did not put an asterisk at the end of this sentence to say, "except during elections." This rule applies 365 days a year. We don't have permission to spew our verbal venom just because a liberal Democrat is running for office. Ask the Holy Spirit to filter what you say. And if it's unkind, condemning, insulting, racist or crude, just be quiet. (P.S. I am not sure when it became acceptable for Christians to swear at each other, but you are grieving the Holy Spirit when you use a derogatory term to describe a brother or sister in Christ. And remember: Jesus said in Matthew 5:22 that if you call someone a "fool," you are "shall be in danger of hell fire.") 4. Preserve and nurture relationships with those you disagree with. This election was intense, and the conversations between friends and family often got heated. Your candidate may have won, but if you burned bridges because of your campaigning, you lost. Now is the time to mend broken relationships. Paul told us to be "diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:3 ). That means you have to work hard at staying connected to people. If you cut Christians out of your life because of how they voted, you are dismembering the body of Christ. 5. Gently challenge any form of prejudice. We can't achieve Christian unity just by sitting in a circle and smiling at each other. True peacemakers are not wimps. Building bridges requires the courage to confront. Paul said true unity requires "speaking the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15 ). Pastors, especially, have the responsibility to speak from the pulpit about racism. It is shameful for us to run from this issue when it is staring us in the face. I challenge every church leader in America to carefully assess whether you burned any bridges during this election. Did people walk out because of political statements? How are you going to win those people back? And how are you planning to reach people who are from a different racial group? Let's set aside all animosity and build a bridge with Christ's love. J. Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham will be leading our IPHC delegation. He has participated in all of the marches for life. Traditionally held on January 22, the anniversary of Roe V. Wade, this year the march will be held Friday, January 27 due to the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. This year’s theme is "The Power of One." Through ministries such as Falcon Children’s Home and Royal Home Ministries, the IPHC is able to provide young ladies an alternative to abortion. The March for Life also gives us the opportunity to join other groups and denominations in taking a public stand for the right of the unborn. The delegation will gather at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 27, at the Best Western Pentagon Hotel, 2480 S. Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia, for a time of prayer and worship before traveling to the National Mall to join thousands of others in the March for Life. Most importantly, we encourage you to pray for the unborn, their mothers and ministries that are providing an alternative to abortion. We pray for strength, grace, and protection for those who will be participating in this peaceful march in January. I am indebted to Army Chaplain (Colonel) Ken Godfrey and his wife, Karen, for sending me an attachment of the program of the National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral on Saturday, January 21, 2017. It has a beautifully designed seal of the Inauguration of Present and Vice President Trump and Pence. It is a Citation--a keepsake. Melvine has place it on our coffee table in our family room for all to see.
You will be able to see and read all the hymns that were sung, the Scriptures that were read, and the prayers that were offered to God upon behalf of our nation, our President and Vice President, and all who are in authority. It is something you will want your children to see and every member of your family. I want to thank Mel Tinney, my webmaster, for making a file for me, and teaching me how to put this docuent in this newsletter. Let's see how well I have learned as a student. I know very little about technology. I depend on Mel Tinney for his professional expertise. I have made you a hyperlink just for you so you can download this document. If you will Click Here you will see the document of some 23 pages. God is so good to me to provide me with so many friends who are willing to help me do my ministry to bless all of you. As we contemplate the word "Room" in this year 2017, let us make room for love for all people. This is a rather long benediction, but I sense it is something all of us must consider and deal with with God's help. I seek God daily for what Scripture benediction He wants me to share with you my highly esteemed readers.
James 3:1-4:1 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. KJV May God help us. Let us read this Scripture often and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us, and help us to change. I can't believe I got fired from the calendar factory.
All I did was take a day off. The Bible instructs us not to despise the day of small beginnings. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that Your light may shine through me to the world around me so that You may be glorified. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Scripture quotation is taken from The Holy Bible, New King James Version. Adapted from “We Must Stay on Guard,” by Franklin Graham, Decision magazine, January 2017 ©2016 BGEA. On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Janice Robinson Russ received her fourth of four treatments of "immunotherapy" (keytruda) that targets the kind of cancer that has invaded her body. It is less toxic than chemotherapy and only requires 4 treatments of about 30 minutes each every three weeks. Her doctor said there have been reports of high success rates with this therapy, with only minimal side effects. (Including President Jimmy Carter who had Stage IV brain cancer that had spread and is now cancer free; and the doctor said he had a patient that had Stage IV melanoma that was completely cured. So this is a little encouragement -- I will take all I can get of that!) At the end of the four treatments, they will do another PET scan to see if the cells have shrunk. The good news is that Janice was able to take this fourth treatment yesterday without any ill effects. The next step is to have a PET Scan to evaluate the condition of the cancer they are trying to kill in her body. They will have to wait and see. In the event that this first four treatments need further infusions, she will be prepared, Lord willing, to begin the process over again. Join me so many others in asking God for a "creative miracle" in Janice's body. We believe that God specializes in things thought impossible and He can do for Janice what no other power can do. Jesus won the victory at Calvary. His healing virtues continues to flow from his supreme sacrifice. We are looking forward to an exciting season of plenty as has been prophesied. As Pentecostal Christians we believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are in operation today. God is still speaking through His Word, the Holy Bible, as well as prophetic utterances. We will receive all that God provides for His people. King David prayed this prayer as He blessed the God of heaven and earth: 1 Chronicles 29:10-11 "Blessed are You, LORD God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; (Janice belongs to God) Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all. NKJV The prophet Isaiah wrote: Isaiah 53:5 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. NKJV The apostle Peter wrote: " . . . by whose stripes you were healed." NKJV We believe the Word of God and receive it for our sister in Christ Jesus, Janice Robinson Russ. |
